Computer Crimes

I believe that computer crimes are on the rise because everyday more and more people are becoming computer literate. The more people that there are using computers, the more criminal that there are going to be and therefore there would be more crime. I think that the security measures that we can take against these criminals are getting better and better everyday however, I also believe that the criminals can advance in their field just as quickly if not quicker than the people in the cyber security field.

Three different types of computer crimes that I am aware of are viruses, identity theft, and hackers. Viruses harm computers and take their information. People that steal the identity of others use it for “stealing money and obtaining other benefits through the use of a false identity” (Oak, n.d.). Hackers gain access to unauthorized communications pathways and can carry out crimes and make it look as if your doing it. I think that it is very important for the police to track down people that commit such crimes and make examples of them. The greater the consequences for these types of crimes, the less likely people will be to attempt them.
